IT WAS a fun day out for children afflicted by Down Syndrome along with their
parents and volunteers as they gathered to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day at
Pulai Spring Resort in Johor Baru.
The event, organised by Kiwanis Club of Johor Baru, was to raise funds and
public awareness for Kiwanis Down Syndrome Foundation (KDSF).
One of those who attended the celebration, 48-year-old Normidah Razak,
brought along her 15-year-old daughter to join in the fun.

Really cute: One of the children posing for a

She praised Kiwanis Club for organising such activities all over the
country.
“The event is meaningful because it unites and encourages our children to mix
with each other regardless of whether they are Malay, Indian or Chinese,” said
Normidah.
A housewife who wished to be known only as Vasunda, 49, said the resort
provided a good environment for the children to have fun.
“I hope the club continues to organise outings like this as it warms my heart
when I see the joy on the children's and parents’ faces,” she said, adding that
her son B. Rishikumaran, 15, made many new friends at the outing.

Exciting moment: Children waiting with their parents
for the announcement of winners of the mummy
game. |
For Gow Kui Lian, 41, she heard about the event from a teacher at the KDSF
Johor Baru Centre.
“I am happy to volunteer to help the children in activities here,” she
said.
Gow said she was impressed by the multi-racial affair.
“People from all walks of life are coming together in the aid of the special
children.

Outdoor fun: Volunteers and parents assisting the
children in a paper dance game. |
“This in turn will provide an understanding and a bond among us even though
we are from different cultures and backgrounds,” she said when met at the
function.
The activities of the day included a cartoon show at the Resort’s Cineplex
and a house tour where visitors had the chance feed Japanese koi fish and
peacocks and parrots at the resort.
