Parents With Down's Syndrome Children Advised To Register With Foundation

PETALING JAYA, March 21 (Bernama) -- Parents of children afflicted with Down's Syndrome are advised to register them with the Kiwanis Down's Syndrome Foundation (KDSF).

This is to enable the children to undergo the KDSF-developed Early Invention Programme (EIP) to improve growth development.

KDSF information and resource officer Norzattul Syimma Mohd Norshah said EIP was a programme which appplied to pre-school children suffering from a condition affecting their development.

She said EIP included special education, physiotheraphy, occupational theraphy, speech therapy and also a resource library of toys, books and audio visual equipment facility.

"It is important to educate Down's Syndrome children as early as two-months old because development building is crucial in their infancy years," Norzattul said at the launch of Down's Syndrome Day at Damansara Specialist Hospital here.

Earlier, KDSF chairman Fred Tan said the foundation needed support from the public, especially corporate companies, to enable it to set up more Down's Syndrome centres in rural areas.

He said KDSF could be contacted at 03-78030179 or www.kdsf.org.my.

Earlier at the function, a Down's Syndrome child, Ho Wai Kin, displayed his talent by playing the violin.
